Romania Vehicle Fleet Explorer
Browse Romania's registered vehicle fleet by county, fuel type, brand and category. All figures come from official DRPCIV records published as open data on data.gov.ro, as of 2025-12-31.
About this dataset
This tool reuses Parc auto Romania, the national vehicle-registration dataset published by the Direcția Regim Permise de Conducere și Înmatriculare a Vehiculelor (DRPCIV) (DRPCIV) on data.gov.ro. The "registered fleet" counts every vehicle currently entered in the national registry — passenger cars, light commercials, motorcycles and other categories — regardless of whether it was driven in a given period. It is a stock figure, not a count of new registrations.
As of 2025-12-31, Romania had 10,532,424 registered vehicles. The fleet remains overwhelmingly combustion-powered: diesel accounts for 5,827,963 vehicles (55.3%) and petrol for 4,138,402 (39.3%). Together the two fuels cover the large majority of the country's cars and vans.
Electrification is visible but still early. Fully electric vehicles number 70,826, or just 0.7% of the fleet — under one percent. The trajectory, however, is steep: the electric count grew from 468 vehicles in 2015 to 70,826 in 2025, roughly a 151-fold increase. Hybrids follow a similar curve, reaching 381,002 vehicles (3.6%), while LPG and CNG make up 114,229 (1.1%).
The explorer below lets you switch between Romania's 42 counties (județe, including Bucharest), the leading vehicle brands and the main vehicle categories, and read the fuel split for each. Use it to compare regional fleets, gauge diesel exposure or track how far electrification has reached in a given area.
Why Lexio built this
Lexio is vehicle rental and fleet management software, so understanding how national fleets are composed is part of our everyday work. We published this explorer as a straightforward reuse of public data — it is a data tool first, and the Lexio context is secondary.
